Hi, I’m Noli — a licensed pharmacist with 13+ years of experience across dispensing pharmacy, pharmaceutical affairs, cosmetics quality management, and customer support in Japan. I’m also a certified yoga instructor, which honestly shapes how I think about health just as much as my pharmacy background does.
Why I Started This Blog
Working in both pharmacy and yoga taught me something: real health doesn’t start in a hospital. It starts way earlier, in the small everyday stuff — what you eat, how you live. Prevention, not just treatment. That’s the lens I bring to everything here.
Here’s the thing that bugs me, though. Japanese food has this reputation for being incredibly healthy — and it genuinely can be. But a lot of what’s sold today, even here in Japan, is packed with additives and shortcuts that quietly undo the whole point. It feels almost backwards: the healthiest food culture in the world, watered down by the very products meant to represent it.
That’s where I want to help. As a pharmacist, I know how to actually read a label and tell the real thing from the shortcut version. So my goal is simple: help people outside Japan enjoy authentic Japanese flavor — the kind that’s actually good for you, not just good marketing.
What You’ll Find Here
Japan is fascinating, and honestly the food is amazing — but if you don’t live here, it can be hard to know where to even start. What do you buy? How do you use it? That’s exactly the gap I want to fill:
• Fermented foods & gut health — miso, natto, koji, and why they actually matter (not just why they’re trendy)
• Everyday Japanese lifestyle — small habits and products that add up to something bigger
(And every once in a while, when the mood strikes, I might wander into Japanese beauty and skincare too — it’s a world I know well from my pharmacy background, just not the main focus here.)
I write the way I’d explain things to a friend — real expertise, zero lecture mode.
A Bit More About Me
Before this, I worked across dispensing pharmacy, pharmaceutical affairs with overseas customer support, and cosmetics quality management — most recently at an organic skincare company. Pharmacy isn’t the only life I’ve lived, either — I’ve also worked as an international runway model and created travel content for Instagram. Moving through that many different places and experiences is honestly where I sharpened my eye for spotting what’s genuinely good versus what just looks good. I’ve also spent time living abroad myself, so I’ve felt firsthand how confusing (and exciting) it can be to try to bring a bit of Japan into life somewhere else.
If you already love Japan, I hope this makes you love it even more. If you’re just curious, I hope this is where you start. And if you’re Japanese and living abroad, I hope this becomes a small, useful piece of home.
However you found your way here — I hope even a little taste of Japan adds some color to your life.
